Hospice is NOT a place.
Here in Clinton and Northern Franklin Counties we provide care in the home or chosen setting, though some day, perhaps, we will have a residential center.
Hospice is NOT just for people with cancer.
We care for anyone with any life-limiting illness, and their families.
Hospice is NOT just for old people.
Hospice of the North Country serves all ages, from a few days old through middle age to the elderly.
Hospice is NOT just for the dying.
We provide grief counseling and support to the families of our patients for 13 months after the death. We also provide support group services to the wider community as well as education on grief in the schools.
There does NOT have to be a primary caregiver for a patient to have hospice.
We will work with the community to try and make home care possible in the case of a lack of primary caregiver. We also provide care in other settings, Ie. nursing homes, adult care homes.
Patients DO NOT have to change physicians.
We work with the patient’s own doctor. We have a medical director who gives oversight to the medical staff as well as working with the family physician if need be.
Hospice is NOT expensive.
All expenses related to the terminal illness are covered by the Medicare benefit for those over 65 and by the private insurance hospice benefit for those under 65. We DO NOT turn away anyone due to an inability to pay.
Hospice is NOT for the last few days of someones life. Hospice services are available for months and months of care and support.
ANYONE can make a referral to Hospice.
Friends, family, concerned neighbors can call us for information. We will always contact the physician to make him/her aware of the referral.
